Time to open up and share...
Monty Python last weekend was an awesome experience. One of my favorite of all time just for a shared theatrical moment. So I want to hear from you... What was your favorite experience you ever had in a movie theater? Now I'm not necessarily talking about the movie you saw, but more along the lines of something that happened in the theater to make it a special unique experience. I'll share one of mine... I want to say it was 2003 and the movie was "The Ring". My brother encouraged me to see this movie with him because he loved the Japanese original as well as the remake. In the first 20 minutes of the film Amber Tamblyn is killed by the TV, and her body is found grotesquely withered in a bedroom closet. At the big reveal when they open the door and the corpse slumps to the side, a very young child moans wildly at the gruesome scene and begins to wail. One of us says, "Oh way to go..." and the other "yeah, nice parenting!" which starts a loop of uncontrollable giggling between my brother and me, to the point where i can no longer contain myself. I have to go sprinting up the aisle holding back complete spasms of laughter, tears rolling down my cheeks and I BUST out in the the lobby corridor and let out bellows of hysteria. A cinema staff member, with the burgundy vest and all, walks up to me and puts her hand on my bouncing shouder and says very gently... It's okay, it's just a movie, we all get a little freaked out sometimes, it's just a movie. Which made it even worse, i missed like five minutes of that movie trying to get composed enough to go back in and sit down... A similar incident happened this year when I saw SUPERBAD with my brother and a friend. I laughed so hard at the illustrations in the cafeteria scene. I fell out into the aisle. Except i was the second seat in and I rolled over my brother and out into the aisle. |

well, this is not necessarily a favorite movie experience but I still find it amusing to this day... I went to see the new "action thriller" The Fugitive when it first came out...went to a late showing. I was so bored in the first 10 min that I actually fell asleep and slept thru the entire thing, only woken up by the occasional crash or explosion. For weeks after I heard the buzz on how good the movie was....well....I could only comment on the first 10 min. Needless to say, if a movie can't grab me in the first 15 minutes, then it's off to la-la land. :) I've only walked out of 2 movies ever...but fallen asleep in 3 (so far).

I was on a first date once and my date fell asleep in the movie. Not sure if that was a reaction to me or the movie.... As it turned out, I didn't really care. He was the real snooze.
Anyway, my favorite movie experience was seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey the first time. My parents took me, and even though I was just a little girl, I was mesmerized by the whole experience. It wasn't scary to me at all, and I discovered a love for scifi film that I still have today. I also remember asking my Dad a million questions about what the movie meant, and he made up a bunch of outlandish answers to appease me. : ) |

hmmm... first that comes to mind was during "The Matrix" (1st and best of the 3) When Morphius says to Neo "How did I beat you?", and I accidently blurt * out loud * in reply : "Soundly." My whole row of peeps crack up. Appologies if y'all were sitting behind or in front ;-P
second, I'd have to say was my first movie, a drive in when I was like 8 or something: Double feature: Cinderella and Herbie the Love Bug. It was my first movie experience, and it just hasn't seemed right to watch a movie indoors since! LOL! Oh and first indoor movie, my sister took me to the big mall in Maine and we watched ET when it first came out. That was cool, as I hadn't been to a mall before. Outdoors is still best :-) Best movie memory is still to be made, as no 'date movies' really stand out thus far... ;-P |

oh, actually, there was one 'date movie' that was kinda cool...
My boyfriend and I were the 'student sound crew' for the summer at the ORU Mabee Center. Our boss made a deal with the Marriott folks, and they provided the popcorn and he provided the movie "Hunt for Red October". We dropped the center ring screen (beyond huge) and watched it via what must have been the precursor to DVD's , a huge lazer disc? The best parts were getting to play Tetris first on a screen that HUGE, with full stadium surround sound (the same one we used for rock concerts). Can you say 'bammmmmmmm echo echo echo" hee hee. Second best part was getting to watch the movie from our own booth. (and yes we actually watched the *entire* movie , goobers! hee hee :-P) |
