Really, one of the awesome things about living in Manhattan is that you get to see major talents* as they blossom. And we've been fortunate to stumble across Mark Jacobs before he covers David Mamet and Edward Albee with the dust of history. And, although this sort of thing brings us to Times Square, I have enough hydrocortisone cream to see me through.

Four one act plays, two by Mr. Jacobs and two by his colleague Bob Zaslow, have been chosen to cap the Manhattan Rep's Amazing Play Festival. The following is laboriously retyped from promotional materials by yours truly. Just because it's a labor of love doesn't mean I'm going to be quiet about it.

No Freud, Please (A Romantic Comedy)
Written by Mark Jacobs
Directed by Mark Duncan
Starring Sarah Hunt and Patrick Reese
The first time a man says "I love you" is typically a moment of high romance. in "No Freud, Please" these simple words lead Kate and Ross to confront life, love and penis envy.

The Staining of the Shrewd (A Comedy)
Written by Mark Jacobs
Directed by Mark Duncan
Starring Nadia Alexander and Asher Muldoon

Kids can dress like adults, talk like adults and even act like adults, but watch out when Congress abdicates its authority to declare war to them! No, wait, I made that up. Let's back up a little. ... but Danny and Iris will make you laugh out loud as they show that kids don't quite think like adults.

OK! We'll meet up in the box office area -- I'll be hard to miss -- and sit around at the Playwright II afterwards, marvelling at his genius.

Call [masked] (646-FAXOLUT, um, see if you can come up with something better) for tickets, and then RSVP here.

Til then!

Strictly, I don't qualify as someone who didn't accidentally launder their passport as see it destroyed by black mold, but I appreciate the sentiment. Have a good trip!

um...thank you, I think, Mister--....mister--...I give up, I just can't top that. Oh wait. Maybe I can? How about: "That's MIZZ" whatever you said, "to you." (?) Well, I tried. And I forgot to tell you your screenplay was funny.

Well, enjoy the Eiffel Tower, Miss "I didn't accidentally launder my passport and see it destroyed by black mold." You think you're so perfect.

Who attended?

    •  I enjoyed these two plays as well as the other two and found it very enlightening to meet and talk with one of the playwrights.

Didn't see the group but this event was interesting

It's a refreshing pleasure to go to the theater and see characters emerge in ways that are simultaneously believable and entertaining. Mr. Jacobs' fellow playwright also shone with a very strong youth character and an interesting dialog exercise.
    •  It was my first event with this group and it was wonderful! Great to see new plays in an intimate atmosphere and later to reflect and listen to other members impressions - a great experience. Thank you everyone, Ion- especially, for initiating this. Very glad to meet all of you!
