So, I think if you'd been honest with yourself, you would have seen this coming, although the precipitating event really was Ann Patchett (Taft, Run, Bel Canto, Magician's Assistant) writing an essay about the series in the Wall Street Journal.
We're going to go to the opera at the movies! Does anything sound stellar-er? Well, Okeedo, there's not much to know. I'm a portly, middle-aged gentleman who looks like my photo. I'll have the "NYC Film Lovers Meetup" sign Beth laminated for me, and will be hanging out on 2nd Avenue in front of the theater, unless it's somehow unpleasant outside, in which case I'll be hanging out up the ramp.
The performance starts at 6:00. Now, this is the opening gala. It's more of a mish mash than an opera. It's the second act of La Traviata, The third (of five acts) act of Manon, and the final scene of Capriccio. So, it might seem like after publicly announcing her love for the count, and running off with the abbe, our heroine is still struggling to choose between them. But, I don't expect it to come through as a very coherent narrative, seeing as we spend two acts in early 18th Century Paris and are then rocket about 50 years forward. But, we'll see.
We'll stumble over to the Cafe de Ville after and see if we can make sense of it all. Here's the blurb from the official page:
