"INTIMATE STRANGER," says Berliner, "walks the fine line between sorting the dirty family laundry and polishing the precious family jewel."

Famous for his personal and often intimate explorations of himself and of his family in such films as THE FAMILY ALBUM, NOBODY’S BUSINESS, THE SWEETEST SOUND, and WIDE AWAKE, here Alan Berliner examines the life and legacy of his maternal grandfather, Joseph Cassuto, a Palestinian Jew who brokered cotton purchases for the Japanese in Egypt before the outbreak of World War II. After the war Cassuto reunited with his family in New York, but his Japanese ties were strong. Soon he was living in Japan most of the time, while his wife and children remained in the US. Nearly two decades after his death, his grandson Alan constructed a documentary study of the man who was alternately labeled “a romantic adventurer or a shirker of family responsibility; a man at the center of historic events or a nobody.”

Please set aside time after the movie so we can discuss it. We will probably go to the Primo 360 coffehouse across the parking lot after the film.

A black comedy set in 1967 and centered on on Larry Gopnik, a Midwestern professor who watches his life unravel when his wife prepares to leave him because his inept brother won't move out of the house.

I am assuming the listing is correct. If there is a change I'll let you know.

A gripping tale of microbes, medicine & money
UNDER OUR SKIN exposes the hidden story of Lyme disease, one of the most controversial and fastest growing epidemics of our time. Each year, thousands go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, often told that their symptoms are "all in their head." Following the stories of patients and physicians fighting for their lives and livelihoods, the film brings into focus a haunting picture of the health care system and a medical establishment all too willing to put profits ahead of patients.

Under Our Skin Official Website includes trailer, excerpts, and more information about Lyme Disease and how you can help.

1943. 97 min.
Directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer. Filmed during the Nazi occupation of Denmark, this film is a harrowing account of individual helplessness in the face of growing social repression and paranoia. The young wife of a much older pastor falls in love with her stepson ... with disastrous results. Daring for its time; still provocative and challenging. Restored print!

We will meet to see the Black Cat with Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer. 1934. 65 min. Black and White.

Let's meet in the lobby. If I get fewer than 3 responses I will cancel.

The first pairing of the two legendary horror movie stars and one of the best products of the Universal horror output of the '30s. A Satan worshipper murders women as sacrifices and keeps their bodies preserved beneath his creepy Hungarian mansion. Into the scene stumble innocent American honeymooners. Still sublimely creepy.

Hear Paramount ghost stories prior to the first film of the double feature.
