Apparently, the Lemon Tree was not ripe enough so we will be going to see Sugar, also a favorite at the Film Festival. It is a sports movie for people who don't usually watch sports movies (because how much fun is it to watch a movie where you know the whole plot 5 minutes into the movie).

6:00 EATS
In light of the early starting time, plan on getting a quick bite at the Stone Oven. It is a little over a 5 minute walk to the theater. Of course cash is king here.

If you don't see us when you walk in, look for us in the center section.

7:05 MOVIE
Meet at the ENTRANCE DOOR 5 minutes ahead of time or look for the group inside the theater or meet us afterward outside the entrance door.

AFTER MOVIE DISCUSSION
We will head to Jimmy's for beet cake, beer and good conversation.

DESCRIPTION
Miguel Santos, a.k.a Azucar, a Dominican pitcher from San Pedro de Macoris, struggles to make it to the big leagues and pull himself and his family out of poverty. Playing professionally at the Kansas City Knights baseball academy, Miguel finally gets his break at age 19 when he advances to the United States' minor league system. Miguel travels from his tight knit community in the Dominican Republic to a small town in Iowa, corn country, where he and a couple other Latin American teammates are the only Spanish-speaking people in the vicinity. As Miguel struggles with the new language and culture, despite the welcoming efforts of his host family, he is faced with an isolation he never before experienced. When his play on the mound falters, he begins examining more closely the world around him and his place within it, and ultimately questions the single-mindedness of his life's ambition

REVIEW
[A] terrifically human account of a young Dominican pitcher's discomfiting odyssey from his tiny village to a major league training camp to A-ball in the American Midwest..

NOTE TO FIRST TIME GOERS: If this is your first movie with the group, there is no fee to attend.

This group has been successful partly because members have a genuine interest in meeting fellow independent movie goers. We don't always know where to look for you, especially first timers.

We have multiple meeting places: 1. Entrance door to the movie in the theater hallway 5-10 minutes before the movie starts, 2. By the Marquee (or entrance door) after the movie, or 3. Reserved table at a restaurant under the name "Movie Group".

We don't always sit together in the movie theater but if you see a bunch of people talking about good movies they have seen, it is probably us. Please join in. We are always happy to get new people involved.

NOTE TO ALL
: In the world of Independent films, it is recommended that you check back a few days before the event to make sure the movie, restaurant, location or time has not changed.

Sorry I got separated after the movie! I wish I could have talked with you all about it.
    •  The movie was realistic and quite enjoyable. Not at all predictable. I would go see this movie. Otherwise, you could rent it too. Great acting.
