Well, it is 2009 and the Cinemateque is back. I couldn't decide between two movies showing this Friday, so optionally, we may see both. They are both fairly short. You are welcome to see one or the other, depending on your interest.

IOUSA explains in an entertaining format how our country got into the deep "do do" that it did, way before the current financial crisis.
KENNY, a port-a-potty installer, is a solution provider for another "do do" problem.

Non-member price is $8.00 for one movie or $14.00 for both.

Better yet, become a member, take a tax deduction and you get in EVERY movie for only $6. (I do.)

6:00: EATS: L'Albatros Brasserie & Bar is the former "That Place on Bellflower". It just opened up last month. The food is outstanding. It is a little over a 5 minute walk or drive to the theater.

If you don't see us when you walk in, ask to be seated with the Movie Group.

** Please let us know your dinner plans on your RSVP so that we can either save you a seat at the "Movie Group" table or plan to meet you at the movie. Cash is highly recommended. **

7:30 MOVIE(1): Meet at the movie ENTRANCE DOOR 10 minutes ahead of time or look for the group inside the theater or meet us afterward outside the entrance door.

9:15 MOVIE(2): Meet at the movie ENTRANCE DOOR 10 minutes ahead of time or look for the group inside the theater or meet us afterward outside the entrance door.

I.O.U.S.A: “This year’s An Inconvenient Truth” is how critic Peter Rainer described this new documentary that sounds the alarm about the ballooning national debt and its threat to America. Released in major cities a few weeks before September’s Wall Street meltdown, the film is even more timely now. “It accomplishes an amazing thing. It explains the national debt, the foreign trade deficit, the decrease in personal savings, how the prime interest rate works, and the weakness of our leaders.” –Roger Ebert.

REVIEW: "as essential viewing as any common sense advice you've received from parents/grandparents about living within your means" http://oldschoolrevie...

KENNY: This uproarious comedy, a major prizewinner Down Under, takes potty humor to new, populist heights. Kenny is a lovable Aussie lug who makes his living installing port-a-potties at public events; he also can’t contain his enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge of toilets and sanitation with those he meets. Flush with big laughs, Kenny also overflows with heart. Our audience loved it when we first showed it in August. We will again present the original, uncut, unrated Australian version of the movie, which is in English with English subtitles.

REVIEW: "Charming comedy with a strong script and a delightful central performance from Shane Jacobson." http://www.viewlondon...

** NOTE TO FIRST TIME GOERS: If this is your first movie with the group, there is no fee to attend.

This group has been successful partly because members have a genuine interest in meeting fellow independent movie goers. We don't always know where to look for you, especially first timers.

We have multiple meeting places: 1. Entrance door to the movie in the theater hallway 5-10 minutes before the movie starts, 2. By the Marquee (or entrance door) after the movie, or 3. Reserved table at a restaurant under the name "Movie Group".

We don't always sit together in the movie theater but if you see a bunch of people talking about good movies they have seen, it is probably us. Please join in. We are always happy to get new people involved.

** NOTE TO ALL: In the world of Independent films, it is recommended that you check back a few days before the event to make sure the movie, restaurant, location or time has not changed.

I joined this Meetup group two years ago, in January 2007. I'm looking forward to two more years of good movies, good food, and good conversation. Thanks Jim, for all the work you do to make this the best Meetup group in Cleveland.

I already saw Kenny, and we couldn't stop smiling after this one!

    •  IOUSA did an outstanding job of explaining the gravity of our country's financial debt. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to understand our current predicament. Really well done Kenny was a treat. I knew it was going to be quirky, but there was much more to it than bathroom humor. It was intelligent, had quite a bit of heart. It dealt with how society views his job, his relationships with women, his father, his kid. All 5 of us who stayed for the movie were so glad we did. This kind of movie is what makes independent movies so worthwhile. Go rent it. I am still thinking about it.
    •  Great movies. Restaurant was amazing.
    •  I only saw the first film (I.O.U.S.A) and I it was worth seeing even though we had to brave the elements to see it. I would recommend seeing the film.
    •  The food was very good, conversation and company were great and I thoroughly enjoyed both movies it was great pairing. I learned from IOUSA and laughed and laughed at Kenny.
    •  Great food, nice people and pretty interesting movie...Looking forward for a next time
