Music star Prince stars as "The Kid" in this semi-autobiographical film, which follows the escapades of a tortured young musician trying to survive in a dysfunctional environment. He finds solace in the affections of a lovely young singer, but his first love is making his funky, unique brand of music, which he performs at an ultra-hip Minneapolis nightclub. The Kid must also contend with Morris, his nemesis both in music and romance The popular soundtrack of this highly successful film contains many of Prince's most popular tunes, such as "Let's Go Crazy", "When Doves Cry", and the title song.

This meetup has been inactive for a very long time. I mean a really long time.

This is short notice, but ...what better way to start the group up again than with Spike Lee's classic, Do the Right Thing. Not only will you enjoy a memorable evening with Mr. Lee, but, there will be a classic cartoon and an organ accompanied singalong! Just like the good ole days when movie tickets cost just a dime! what more could you want?

This is exciting. I'm excited. I hope you're excited.

This screening at the Fox Theatre celebrates the film's 20th anniversary. Spike Lee will be in attendance and there will be a post-screening Q&A/interview with Spike Lee by CNN’s T.J. Holmes. All for only eight bucks! Be sure to get your tickets as soon as you can from the Fox or Ticketmaster. I have one extra ticket. Email me if you'd like to attend , but, cannot get a ticket. (Update: The extra ticket is no longer available.)

We'll meet outside the doors between 6:30 and 6:45pm. The doors open for seating at 7:00pm. That's when the organ concert starts and the good seats get got. The movie begins at 8:00pm. This is general admission and I suspect it will be crowded and personally I'd rather not have to whip out my opera glasses just to see Spike Lee on the stage looking like a bespectacled ant.

I'll be wearing some flashy accessory or have a meetup sign. Members of the Atlanta Classic Film Meetup will be joining us as well.

Please only RSVP if you will be there. If you have RSVPed yes and cannot make it, please change your RSVP as soon as possible. It's too hot to wait outside for no-shows!

Casablanca at the Fox! What more could you ask for?

***I suggest purchasing tickets in advance. This could easily sell out. ***

Tickets are a measly $7.00 to watch this classic among classics. This will be my first time seeing Casablanca and I am looking forward to seeing it as it was intended ...on the big screen in terrific theatre like the Fox.

Let me know if you are interested in the wine tasting before the movie. If there is enough interest, I will move the meet time up. The wine tasting begins at 5:30pm. Tickets are $10.00 and, of course, include the movie.

See you there!

In July 1937 the Japanese Imperial Army, which already controlled a large section of northeastern China, launched an undeclared war against the Republic of China. Five months later its troops entered the capital city of Nanking and began raping and murdering its citizens in an orgy of violence that has few parallels in modern history. The Rape of Nanking was front page news when it happened but it was soon forgotten in the west until 1994 when a young Chinese-American writer named Iris Chang saw photographs of the atrocities at a conference in California. Chang, whose own grandparents had barely escaped the massacre, decided it was her responsibility to rescue this event from oblivion.

Make-out with Violence is a genre-bending tale of a boy trying to fulfill his unrequited love for a girl who has risen from the dead. Set against the backdrop of a summer of cicadas and melty milkshakes, it tells the story of twin brothers Patrick and Carol Darling, newly graduated from high school and struggling to come to terms with the disappearance of their friend, the bright and beautiful Wendy Hearst. When a drive through the countryside leads to the discovery of Wendy's mysteriously animated corpse, the boys secretly transport Wendy to an empty house in hopes of somehow bringing her back to life. Part zombie movie, part moody teen melodrama, and full of style, the Deagol Brothers have created a film that defies easy classification.
