About Boston International/Arthouse Movie Meetup Group

Boston is a great city for movies with many venues offering some really wonderful films which are not playing at your local multiplex. Countries such as Russia, Iran, China, France, Brazil, Korea, India, Japan, Germany (need I go on and I apologize for any omisions) are all producing challenging, thought-provoking works. Such movies not only provide people with the opportunity to see what is perhaps a great piece of art but to learn about other peoples and cultures as well. Let us not ignore classics from the past, typically shown at the HFA and the Brattle , the assorted film festivals in the Boston area and American independent films.

After each movie , the group's organizer will hold a meetup sign near the front row and then we will go to a local cafe, restaurant, or bar to discuss the work. As members from the goup have got to know one another, it is not uncommon for members to sit together during the film.

Too serious(?), not at all- while the Oscars may not respect comedies, our group does retain the right to laugh! The discussions afterwards are typically low-key, as members both discuss the film and get to know each other.

Members can also suggest movies for the group to see via the Message Board.

Since there are so many great films to see in the area, the group has multiple organizers in the hope that a wide range of films are available to members as group events.
