    Afghan Star is playing at the Red Vic Theater 1727 Haight Street on Sunday, November 22 at 2pm, 4:15pm and 7pm. Tickets are $9, cash only.
    Afghan star is a mesmerizing documentary about an American Idol type show that aired in Afghanistan after 30 years of war and Taliban rule, during which music, dance and television were banned. Winner of the Audience Award at Sundance, this film follows the dramatic stories of four of the contestants over 3 months, from regional auditions to the finals in Kabul. We end up with a new look at this troubled part of the world and a renewed respect for the transformative power of art. 87 minutes.

    I keep missing the latest gatherings. Looking at the upcoming releases, how 'bout "9." http://www.filminfocus.com/focusfeatures/film/9/

    Looks interesting and definitely not a "kids" animated movie.
