Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa's District 9 as the world's nations argued over what to do with them. Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens' welfare, but very interested in their weapons.

The new trailer for this offers an intelligent, more personalized Independence Day/War of the Worlds sci-fi with touches of horror, but i'm sure with Peter Jackson producing and putting his support behind it, that that's selling it short. We'll meet at 7pm for a 7.45pm start. Usual links below:

It's The Dirty Dozen, wonderfully placed to be seen just before the release of Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards. Not only a classic War Movie, one of the best guys on a mission films but also possibly more testosterone assembled than in any other film- Telly Savalas, Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson, to mention a few, and great direction from Robert Aldrich with a great anti-authoritarian tone. We'll meet at 5ish to sit together. Hope you can make it. Links below:

Just before the opening of In the Loop, it's expanded big screen version(which will be a meetup in the following week), the Alamo are showing, In the Thick of It, the acclaimed English sitcom that started it all. If your a fan of Brit sitcoms, comedy in general or just swearing, you won't want to miss this chance to catch up before the film is released. Imagine The Office(English version) with more panic, and a huge amount of expletives. It's also totally free. We'll meet an hour before at 9pm to get seats together, program starts at 10pm. Hope you can make it. Usual links below:

It's one of the best action films of the 1980s, and sequels ever on a big screen. If the thought of seeing Aliens with an audience doesn't get your heartbeat going then your technically dead. Followed by its much maligned but in my opinion, amazingly underappreciated sequel. Alien 3 goes back to the original shockers basics and is about as dark and gothic as you can imagine, also, maybe because i'm English but it always tickles me that all of the convicts in the future seem to be potty mouthed, bald Limeys. The double-bill starts at 7.15, so i'm suggesting we meet at 6.30. The Paramount serves snacks and drinks but Hickory Grill is over the road for those who need to eat before. There will be a 15 minute interval between films. Hope you can make it. Usual links below:

I couldn't make the first one of these so am very happy that the Alamo Ritz decided to do another, the week after. It's Queen to sing-along to on a big screen, say no more. Let's Rock. The show starts at 9.45pm so we'll meet an hour before in the lobby at 8.45pm. Links below:

A showing of Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange would be a good enough excuse for a meetup, but PKW Productions are presenting two live chamber concerts as Pre-movie and intermission entertainments. Some of Austin's finest classical musicians will be performing some of Beethoven's lesser known works, and three brand new pieces on the film's themes. It's going to be very original and a bit special, i think you'll agree. Get your tickets now, as this will sell out. I will be there at 7pm, an hour before for any chance of us sitting together, the program starts at 8pm. Usual links below:

The Collector is picking up alot of buzz as the must see horror movie of the moment. You've probably heard the story, a house breaker realizes that a psychopath has already broken into the house he's planning to rob, and has plans for the family. The thief turns reluctant hero, if only to avoid the fiendish traps and to stay alive himself. I'm very interested if this will live up to its hype, but it's got a good pedigree, so fingers crossed. The film starts at 7.30pm, so we'll meet an hour before to get seats together. Hope you can make it. Tickets are on sale now, and i'm guessing it will sell out. Usual links below:

We already have a double bill of Aliens/Alien 3 planned, so the Alamo Ritz has thoughtfully decided to show the original(and best?) Alien as part of its sci-fi classics season. This film needs no introduction and still works as powerfully and looks as beautiful as when it first came out. If you haven't ever seen it on a big screen you need to experience this. It starts at 10pm so we can meet downstairs in line at 9.00pm to sit together. Usual links below:

It's Master Pancake laying into, let's be honest, a film that really deserves it- Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. A Californian Robin Hood with a mullet, ridiculous inventions in the woods like gunpowder, courtesy of Morgan Freeman as Robin's best Moor mate!!, walking the length of England in about two days, Christian Slater's very modern sounding dropping of an F-Bomb, and so much more. The show starts at 7pm, so we'll meet in line at 6pm to sit together. Hope you can make it. It should be like shooting ducks in a barrel. Usual links below
