I will send out a message when tickets go on sale, so check your schedules. When tickets DO go on sale, go to the following link and click the 10:35pm show time for February 21 to buy them. Be sure to hurry before they sell out. http://www.originala lamo.com/Signature.a spx?id=15 You may know the drill, but for those of you who haven’t been: There is always a line before they begin seating. They’ll start seating anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes before the show starts. It’s suggested that you arrive 45 minutes early to get in line and order drinks. Blah blah blah. Also, try to leave extra early because parking is kind of a bitch. ----- From John Erler of Master Pancake: "Come take the snark pill with Master Pancake Theatre as they mock THE MATRIX: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Bend Reality. Featuring Keanu Reeves as -- let's face it -- Keanu Reeves. Here he adds his trademark "dazed surfer" persona to the character of reluctant messiah Neo, whose name is a poorly veiled anagram for the ONE. Carrie Ann Moss plays perfunctory love interest "Trinity" whose name is a poorly veiled reference to her role here as the Holy Spirit. And Laurence Fishburne plays Morpheus, a kind of special-ed teacher/Kung Fu instructor for Keanu in a journey of self-discovery we like to call "Finding Neo". Come join the fun as Master Pancake takes the chlorophyll out of one of the GREENEST-LOOKING MOVIES EVER MADE!" ----- Here's a great clip if you aren't quite sure what Master Pancake is all about: http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=CRYcQQ0Yk MM

This is your chance to dress 'hair' metal , or at least wear your Def Leppard t-shirt. If you need a new concert t-shirt, let me know ... I know a great t-shirt shop on 6th St. ( From the Alamo Website ). Ah, Valentine's Day. It's one of the busiest days of the year in the restaurant business, and for some of us it's a night of long gazes across that candle-lit table into the eyes of the person of our dreams. Our hands reach across the linen table-cloth, our fingers gently brush against each others', and our loins fueled by wine are just ready and waiting for a tumble in our satin sheets covered with rose petals. For the rest of us, Valentine's Day is a time to remember how we didn't even get the little "I choo-choo-choose you" cards in our paper mailbox at the end of our desk in elementary school, even though it was a CLASS ASSIGNMENT to find one special thing about all of your classmates and write it on a Valentine. Seriously, Mrs. Shellhouse's third grade class? You can't find ONE THING to write on a Valentine to me? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO MOCK US SO, HALLMARK SPONSORED HOLIDAY??? Fortunately, there is an entire genre of music made just for our pain, and it just happens to also be the most badass music ever - POWER BALLADS. When metal went glam, and glam boys needed radio hits to afford the fancy hair product they’d grown addicted to, they slowed it down a bit for the ladies and created the anthems that would become theme songs for an entire generation. Caitlin and I update this show a little bit every year, and this fourth year of LOVE BITES will prove to be the greatest yet. We'll hold lighters in the air and sway, we'll pound our fists at the sky in defiance of those who would dare not love us, and we'll do it all with teased hair and animal print tights on. Featuring the music of Guns 'n Roses, Motley Crue, Warrant, and more - it's okay to cry, just make sure your hair is big while you do it. Hope this one fits your schedule. JayB.

*Alamo changed the date AGAIN, so update your calendars!* It starts at 10 PM. Buy your tickets in advance or don't come whining to me! From Alamo's site: Spike & Mike's Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation has been a January tradition at the Alamo Downtown for almost the entire existence of the theater. Every year we like to think that we've been so desensitized by the previous shows that nothing could shock us, and every year we're proven wrong. The 2009 edition is filled with so much that is so wrong that you'll be bleeding out of your eyes by the end of the show, and you'll be laughing so hard that your intestines will likely pop up out of your mouth and fly into the air, lassoing an unsuspecting audience member four rows down who will mistake your guts for a prop that's supposed to be used in the show and will start gleefully playing with them. And you'll still be laughing so hard that you won't even mind. Seriously, that's how good this year's show is. There will be fresh appearances from old favorites Dr. Tran and the Happy Tree Friends among others, and there are also a whole new crop of characters ready to make you vomit through your nose.

Looks like the Alamo has changed the date/time for this event. Hope you're still able to fit this one into your schedule. If you haven't had the pleasure of DJ Spooky workin live, here's your opportunity to see a true multimedia artist in his element. ( Co-opted from the Alamo website ) Artist/musician/writ er/producer/professo r Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky, That Subliminal Kid, will not play your house party. He has collaborated with the likes of Kool Keith, Chuck D. and Dave Lombardo, and has become a cornerstone of Asphodel Records. The philosophical trip-hop prodigy has contributed work as a media artist that has appeared at the Whitney Biennial, The Venice Biennial for Architecture, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne and The Andy Warhol Museum. Miller is constantly in motion, working and experimenting within the increasing convergence of media forms and outlets from which he draws much of his inspiration. His film, REBIRTH OF A NATION, has been called a brilliant application of DJ-technique to the motion picture. Part multimedia installation, part film, part music concert- Spooky remixes D.W. Griffith's BIRTH OF A NATION with his own unique music and designs, creating a highly affecting alternative take on Griffith's racially intolerant epic. This is your chance to examine the process and product of one of the art world's most celebrated turntabilists. Come on out for a true multimedia experience. Hope to see you there. JayB.

Tickets now on sale! Go to the following link to buy tickets for the 7:00pm show on January 25: https://www.original alamo.com/online_tix /buy_new.asp?showing =123063 Instructions: If you plan on coming, bring the DVD that you want them to mock. It doesn’t matter what it is! Last time, someone brought a 1970’s western that double starred William Shatner called “White Comanche,” so nothing is off limits. I think I may bring Jumanji. There is always a line before they begin seating. They’ll start seating anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes before the show starts. It’s suggested that you arrive 45 minutes early to get in line and order drinks if you wish to. I'll most likely arrive an hour early. There’s always a really entertaining pre-show compilation of clips in the theater while you order and wait for your food. ----- For more information about Master Pancake: http://www.originala lamo.com/Signature.a spx?id=15 ----- And, just for fun, here's a hilarious clip from their mockage of "Goldfinger." ( From the Alamo Ritz website ) FACT: Devo were the best band in the world. By popular demand, the Alamo Drafthouse is reprising the film DEVO: THE MEN WHO MAKE THE MUSIC, but this time, we're injecting an elephant-killing dose of Devo-amphetamine straight through your eardrum because Devo tribute band Big Mess is going to also perform live in the theater! This incredible collection, released before their '80s 'Whip It' phase acted as supporting evidence for the group's de-evolution theory, is undeniable proof. No other band -- new wave, rock or otherwise - has ever burst forth so fully armed with revolutionary new sounds, images and ideas. If you're still skeptical that Devo were the greatest innovators in music history, this show will leave those doubts in the dust. The boys formed as a school project in 1973, beating both the punk and new wave movements by a long stretch and choosing to document their avalanche of creativity via music, film and even bizarre printed pamphlets on mankind's evolutionary regression. The footage in tonight's show (much of which is unavailable on DVD) captures Devo at the absolute tip of their violently creative apex, where each music video and short film explodes with bizarre snapshots borne of future fantasies, nerdish sexual denial and unfiltered, unhinged brilliance. PLUS!: this show will feature a very rare and special performance from full-tilt full-costume Devo tribute band BIG MESS! At the end of the program, you'll have no choice but to stand up and declare: "We ARE Devo!!!" I missed the first showing of this doc due to work, and am determined to get to this one ! If your folks won't write you a note, I will OK you being up a bit later on a school nite. Hey, it's the least I can do. ;-) Hope to see you there. JayB.

*** Sorry folks, I need to make a scheduling change here. Hopefully the change won't effect your plans. I'm changing the start time to 7 PM, and the show start time to 7:50 PM*** A perfect match of script and actors ? Hmmmm ... well if you've seen the trailer, you'll agree that this may be the best ( most perfect ? ) film to come along in years. ( From the Alamo Website ). "A kind of harmonic convergence of player and part that happens once in a blue moon- the actor vanishing so completely inside a role that our sense of his "real" identity is permanently altered." - David Ansen, Newsweek "Aronofsky keeps his camera steadily on his star, knowing that Rourke brings everything the movie needs - himself, and his intimate knowledge of failure. It's one of the decade's great performances." -Ron Gonsalves, eFilmCritic.com This may be the first time we've ever seen the toughest critics and fans unanimously deem a new film perfect. With his battle scars and failing heart, retired professional wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) jumps back into the squared circle to prove to himself that he's more than just a used-up piece of meat. A simple premise, but apparently Rourke's performance and the script are so strong, compelling and real that audiences across the world are going haywire, calling this the best film in the critically acclaimed director's entire career. There hasn't been a new American drama this exciting since the WWF was king! Thanks to Andrea for some great input on planning this event. Hope you can make it. JayB.

Each year around this time, we roll out a new volume of Super Happy Fun Monkey Bash, a 90 minute compilation of mind-boggling insanity from Japanese television. You'll see A-list American celebrities pimping themselves out for cheap Japanese products, bawdy situation comedies, extreme pro-wrestling, bizarre anti-flatulence products, nonsensical English phrases, supreme goofiness, and lots and lots of foam rubber costumes! Back by popular demand, we are showcasing a new clip from Gomez, the primate anchor of the much-beloved Chimpanzee News Network (CNN) as well as extended clips from the professional wrestling debut of Hard Gay. As with past editions of Super Happy Fun Monkey Bash we'll feature prizes and giveaways at every show. Please buy your tickets in advance as these events do sell out. My cell will be emailed to those that RSVP 'yes/maybe' . *** Based on some excellent input from Declan and Andrea, we're going to start off with a rooftop Happy Hour at the Iron Cactus. HH starts at 7:30 PM. We'll lhead over to the Ritz at about 9:30 PM then to get in line for the Monkey Bash. *** Hope you can make it out. JayB.

Since the Super Happy Funny Monkey Bash doesn't start til 10:25 PM, I thought it would be a good use of time to have a Happy Hour before we line up for the film. The Iron Cactus is next door to the Ritz, so ... a few steps, and we're at the Alamo. I'll email the 'Yes/Maybe' RSVPs with my cell phone. FYI: The Iron Cactus is located in downtown Austin on Sixth Street, which has a bunch of upscale restaurants, casual cafes, bars, tattoo parlors, etc. Live music can also be heard as you walk along Sixth Street. I have had the shredded chicken enchiladas, which were really good and the prices aren't that bad either. The chips and salsa were a plus. It's a good place for both Happy Hour and dinner. Yummy! We'll hang til about 9:30 PM , and then head over to the Ritz. Hope you can make it out. JayB.
