ATTENTION: All Asian Cinephiles. New meetup group is looking for casual filmgoers to serious students of foreign films from Asia to meetup once a month for a first-run film and thought provoking conversation afterwards. The SF Bay Area is a major clearinghouse for films from China, Japan, Korea, India, Vietnam, etc. Asian films include haute cinema verite to John Woo potboilers to the latest Bollywood extravaganza to anime/manga and everything in between.
Where are all those people who saw "Lust, Caution" last year? Did you know it was a retread of a Fifth Generation flick called "Shanghai Triad" minus the explicit sexuality? Or how about Sandra Bullock's '06 romance, "The Lake House," which was a remake of a Korean film entitled "Il Mare?" Did you see Hsaio-Hsien Hou"s "Three Times" and wondered what the fuss was all about? Looking to support Asian films in the San Francisco market, and also local filmmakers whose primary themes are Asia or Asian Americans. You don't have to be Asian, only a fan of Asian cinema to join this meetup.
