About Contra Costa Cinephiles Meetup

Who we are:

We're a group of people in the Contra Costa Area (and beyond) who enjoy watching movies, whether they're summer blockbusters or independent/foreign films.

We thrive on member participation which includes letting organizers know what movies you'd like to see in the area or other events with respect to film that are happening in the Contra Costa County area via the message boards.

We're not limited to just being in Contra Costa, but that's where we'd like to focus a majority of the events since that's where most of us live.

Our Goals:

  • Foster friendships through the mutual love of film.
  • Organize safe and creative meetups that will encourage everyone to feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Create an environment that is open to lively discussions about film while respecting the viewpoints of others.
  • Remain open to all types of movies whether they be independent, foreign, or summer blockbusters.
  • Maintain a forum for constructive feedback as well as participation from our members as a tool for building a better group for all to enjoy.

F.A.Q:

  • How soon should I arrive for the movie?
Arrive ~15 minutes before the movie starts unless stated otherwise in the meetup event page. The organizer will wait for people up to 5 minutes before showtime. If you happen to be a little late, no worries! Just look for us after the movie is over.
  • I'm going to my 1st meetup for this group and don't know anyone. How will I find everyone?
Each Organizer has his/her photo posted. I've selected people whom I know will be there when they say they will and are friendly and welcoming, so don't hesitate to ask "Are you with the movie meetup?". We've all been in your shoes!
  • Where should we purchase our tickets?
You can purchase your ticket at the box office or online at Fandango. Each member is responsible for purchasing his/her own ticket.
  • Movies are really expensive these days. Is there a way I can get cheaper tickets?
Yes there is! They have discounted tickets at Costco for a variety of theatres and can be bought online or in-store - we mainly use Cinemark in our area, but others can be found on the website. They are 5 tickets for $37.50 ($7.50 each) and have no expiration date, which is a nice discount (normally $10 at the box-office).
  • I'm not that hungry after the movie...am I required to go out to eat with everyone afterwards?
Nope! That's totally optional. Even if you just want to sit in on the company without ordering you're completely free to do so.
  • There's a movie I want to see, but it's not posted on the calendar! Is there a way for me to see if anyone else is interested in it?
Feel free to post the movie that you want to see on the group's message boards. With a group this size, you may be surprised that there are others who share your movie interests!
  • What does "organizing an event" entail?
All this means is that you're the contact person and you just keep track of who to look for outside of the theatre (i.e. the "Yes" and "Maybe" RSVPs.) That's it!
  • I'd like to organize a movie event. How do I go about doing that?
Let one of the Organizers know about the event and either we can plan it, or we can post it for you with you as the organizer for your event. Just give us the info (movie, location, time, day) and we'll be happy to post the event for you!
  • There's a movie on the calendar that I'm interested in, but no meetup event has been planned for it. What should I do?
We've put the event on the calendar for informational purposes only. If there's no meetup event posted, chances are that none of the Organizers are able to plan it, but you're still welcome to partcipate in the event and to see if there's any interest from other members via the message boards!
  • This meetup doesn't really cater to my taste in movies. Can I start my own meetup?
You sure can! There are different subscription plans: $19/month (billed monthly), $14/month (billed every 3 months), and $12/month (billed every 6 months). You can have up to 3 different meetups with one subscription. See this page for more details.
