Film Festival Alternative suggested by Sue Long who really fancies this one, I can't make it though so Sue will be organising it if she gets a few takers

Full details here http://www.leedsfilm.com/films.aspx?id=446

Received to howls of laughter at its Cannes screening this year, this is a fresh and hilarious look at the life of a family of losers who still live at home with their mum, get drunk and do ridiculous things. This colourful portrayal of ‘misfortunate’ lives surprises in its divergence from more common cinematic subject matter. Thoroughly entertaining, with underlying seriousness made all the more poignant because of its slapstick, this fabulous Belgian film finds a new way of reaching your heart – through splitting your sides! Great fun

Could be tremendous, must be worth the risk surely. And don't call me Shirley.

Leeds Film Festival #1 of 6 for anyone who fancies, and full details of this film can be found here; http://www.leedsfilm.com/films.aspx?id=332. Synopsis: A nail-biting thriller based on the true story of a daring escape to west Berlin by Olympic swimmer Harry Melchior, who has to battle against cave-ins, flooding (well he's a champion swimmer so that ain't gonna be a problem!) and Stasi spies. NB at 150 mins this is a long movie. Want to meet up for it? Julie has agreed to organise this one as I cannot now make it. Thanks Jules!

and IS NOW FRIDAY night, here are some extra details... Mobile 07985 780284 Royal Park pub before for a quick pint, then I'll be outside Hyde Park from 8:30 pm. Empire gives this a good review by the way... An improvised comedy, shot over five days by Shane Meadows, devised with and starring Paddy Considine. Rock roadie and failed musician, Le Donk has lived, loved and learned. Along the way he's lost a girlfriend but he has found a new sidekick in up-and-coming rap prodigy Scor-zay-zee. With Meadows' fly-on-the-wall crew in tow, Donk sets out to make Scor-zay-zee a star...with a little help from the Arctic Monkeys... This low-budget rockumentary follows Le Donk and Scorz on their journey of a lifetime; it's an unpredictable, irrepressible ode to spontaneous filmmaking - and to a burgeoning UK rap talent. Risky? Worth it I feel :-)

Meeting Point: Outside the Hyde Park between 6:00 and 6:10, ads trailers start at 6:10, film actually starts 6:20 ish. Frozen River is getting some very good reviews, TIME magazine said it was a miracle, hmm high praise indeed. This a thriller that takes place in the days before Christmas near a little-known border crossing on the Mohawk reservation between New York State and Quebec. Here, the lure of fast money from smuggling presents a daily challenge to single moms who would otherwise be earning minimum wage. Two women - one white, one Mohawk, both single mothers faced with desperate circumstances - are drawn into the world of border smuggling across the frozen water of the St. Lawrence River. Ray and Lila - and a New York State Trooper as opponent in an evolving cat-and-mouse game. Sounds well worth a look. Anyway I'm a definite if anyone else fancies joining me that's kool et gang. My mobile is on 07985 780284 ring me if you can't find me when you get there.

Time for another of our famous DVD Evenings...

All welcome at my place in Shadwell, (can pick people up if you need a lift) - free food and drink provided, just bring yourself and any movies you'd like to watch. If we get bored of the films there's always the chance of some Wii action . Plenty of room for people to stay overnight.

Date is flexible, can be moved if there is another time that would suit people better. Early RSVPs would be appreciated so I can get some kind of idea of the numbers.

Vue Light is definitely showing this next Friday, not sure what time but we'll be going to the first showing after 6:20, whatever that time is. it will not be known until Tuesday unfortunately

Empire Magazine says QT is back to form with this movie about a Nazi hunting terrorist unit starring Brad (I've got a very big knife) Pitt. Yeah Baby! I'm going to see this as early as possible, so opening day in Leeds and venue to be decided. More details later

Part Two is released 3 weeks later, and will presumably be also at the Hyde Park. This French gangster film gets 8/10 in Empire and stars Vincent Cassel (La Haine) Cecile de France (Switchblade Romance) and Gerard Depardieu (every French film since 1967). Jacques Mesrine is a legendary real-live gangster, this first film follows his life from 1959-1970 based on an autobiography he wrote in jail, looks great, its a great venue and a perfect time. 113 mins for any Hyde Park cinema clock watchers!
