Okay, so it may not be the best title. Forgive me, I'm semi-new to this site. I couldn't find a group in Bucks County I could enjoy. So i decided to start my own! I am hoping to meet others who would like to get together bi-weekly or monthly. If we did it bi-weekly... we could get together during the first week of the month, see a movie. And during the third week, we could all review a book, or discuss titles we have enjoyed. If we do it monthly, we could try to see a movie followed by dr …

Once a month, we gather together in a space in West Philly that can fit up to 50 people to watch a movie and talk about it. We generally focus on recent dvd releases of foreign, independent, and documentary films. After watching the film together, we have a discussion which usually lasts about 50 minutes. It's been great to meet people from so many different backgrounds and see the value that diversity adds to our group and discussions. Javaflix is a free event.
Are you as likely to see a tiny indie foreign film as a mega-budget summer blockbuster? Will you go to a theater to see a great movie you've seen many times before just to see it on the big screen with an enthused audience? Could you discuss the world of movies, especially your favorites, for hours?? I've signed up as organizer of this meetup and can't wait to turn it into THE coolest movie club in Philadelphia. I have a lot of ideas to inspire this group to be more than just people who meet …

So you've named your cat "Q". The bumper sticker on your car reads "My other car is the Millenium Falcon". You start affecting a British accent after watching Doctor Who. You own dice that have more than six sides. You sometimes mutter spells under your breath and marvel that they don't work (if they do work... I wanna meet you). You secretly hope to bitten by a radioactive spider or wish you could go on a quest for Shikon Jewel shards. And you might even have more toys now than you ever had as …

In profiling Chinese adoptees in contemporary America, Linda Goldstein Knowlton's (THE WORLD ACCORDING TO SESAME STREET) deeply moving documentary illustrates that even the most specific of experiences can be universally relatable. Of the roughly 80,000 girls who have been adopted from China since 1989—a decade after China implemented its One Child Policy—the film intimately follows four teenagers: Haley, Jenna, Ann, and Fang. These four wise-beyond-their-years, yet typical American teens, revea …
